Then, I plug in 7 laptops that act as clients, and I push the image I created onto those 7 laptops. I take one laptop and install all the software and drivers and get it to look how I want, and then I create an image using Symantec Ghost Server, and store it on that ghost master laptop.
This laptop has the images that I create from the 'ghost master'. I plug the one laptop that acts as the server and runs Symantec Ghost server (looks like this ). I plug a 8 port gigabit switch into that port. So this is the second issue that I haven't been able to resolve on my own, and my usual go to guy hasn't gotten back to me in a few, so I figured I'd try Reddit. It took a long time, but thankfully it was over Christmas break and there was no down time.*
So we had to reconfigure our modem, new load balancer, wireless controller and 11 access points, etc. In the 2 years I've been working here, there has only been 1 issue that I could not fix on my own, and that was when our load balancer died, and the configurations on our server and wireless controller were both reset due to a power outage (happened at the same time). So basically I got this job because a relative needed a tech savy person on site, and I was available so I got picked up. I run my own business fixing computers and consoles on the side for side money, as well as working at this school. However, I've been messing with computers for about 5 years now on my own and have to say am an advanced user. I went to school for Graphic Design for 3 years after high school, and never took a single computer class. Well I am 22 years old, currently going to school for Network Administration (Just started last semester). Well I was brought on board the 2nd year the school was operating, and the company they hired basically bailed after setup up the system half way. You may ask why the balls is it that way.
No Active Directory, No server roles, etc. We have a server that is currently setup as a Workgroup, so all our machines are independent. I work at a charter school in Michigan that hosts 420 lovely little children. If you want to get right to the issue, skip the background story in italics. I hope you guys are in for a crap load of writing and links. Cause when summer comes along and I have to ghost 200+ laptops.one at a time inst going to cut it. After I finish with that I'll try and see if I can store images on my server and push them from there over the network. Works for 1 on 1 right now and I can knock out these 30 laptops in two days. Have started using clonezilla on a local level.creating and image and storing on a external HDD, and moving that external to a client and ghosting it over.
